Winter storm Jonas continues to drop 2-3 inches per hour in New York City. Also strong winds will continue through much of Saturday, likely causing power outages possible coastal flooding during both high tides Saturday along the Atlantic coast from Long Island Sound to the Delmarva Peninsula.
The Weather Channel states New York Governor Declares State of Emergency. Additionally they cited: “According to CBS New York, an MTA spokesperson said that the city’s public transit will remain open over the weekend. Gov. Andrew Cuomo tweeted that the MTA is deploying 1,800 personnel to maintain subway operability during the storm. Alternate side parking will be suspended on Saturday, and all vehicles blocking snow removal will be towed. Residents should refrain from any unnecessary travel, de Blasio said.”
CNN stated: “Philadelphia is suspending much of its public transportation for Saturday. Up to 85 million people are in the path of a worsening winter storm that’s iced up much of the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic.” New York snowfall forecasts have increased — 16 inches “is not out of the question,” CNN Meteorologist Derek Van Dam said.
Snow is coming down, but when the storm goes into the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday morning, it will supercharge, CNN Meteorologist Chad Myers said.
The New York Times states: “Bill de Blasio, the mayor of New York City, urged residents to use mass transit or stay at home as much as possible on Saturday and Sunday, when the worst parts of the storm are expected to cause winds of up to 50 miles per hour and drop between 8 and 12 inches of snow.”
